The Native Leek is a perrenial herb that produces edible seed, onion-flavoured and sweet, plump corms that are a tasty bushfood in the Wurundjeri culture (do not eat the leaves); its yellow, star-shaped flowers bloom from September to March. This plant dies back during hot, dry weather, but its growing season can be extended throughout the year with frequent watering. When the leaves die back naturally, the corm beneath is ready for harvesting. It is suited to rockeries and cottage gardens, and is also excellent as a container plant.
