David completed a trade as a boilermaker and worked in the gas industry on a FIFO roster for 10 years. After battling some health issues, David needed to change direction in his life and with support from Joanna they together purchased Avalon Nursery.
Joanna has worked hands on in the nursery and garden industry since age 16. She is most passionate about native plants and is a lover of rare and unusual plants. She loves stocking the nursery with a huge range of plants to suit everyone. Joanna is the proud mum of Earl, Woody, Whitey, Ziggy and Bronson, the Avalon Nursery pets.
Certificate III in Horticulture since 2018 working in nurseries. Olga has played a great part in growing the Avalon Nursery.
Jacob is a third year apprentice at Avalon Nursery. His passion for plants came from his parents who are avid gardeners and have an amazing variety on their 5 acre family home in Haddon. Having worked at the nursery since early 2017, Jacob has enjoyed watching this place grow in to one of the biggest Nurseries in the Western District. Outside of work, Jacob is a sports fanatic following the Formula 1s, EPL, Cricket, Tennis and AFL. He looks forward to meeting you and assisting you in the nursery soon.
Being interested in self sufficiency and helping the community, Brendan joined the Ballarat Community Garden and studied a permaculture design course for one year before deciding that gardening is one of the best things for keeping people connected, happy and healthy.
He quit his desk job, studied Horticulture Certificate III and joined Avalon Nursery at the start of 2019. He loves talking about what fruit and veg people are growing and permaculture ideas that can help you create a sustainable and rewarding garden.
At an early age Tahlia discovered a love for plants and being in the nursery industry. Growing up in Warrnambool by the coast, she knew that a career in horticulture was the path she wanted to take, and always dreamt she'd work at a large successful nursery. She completed her Certificate II & III in Horticulture, which then lead her to meet David and Joanna (and of course Earl). With 8 years of previous experience in the industry, she started working at Avalon Nursery in May 2019. Tahlia is passionate about working together with customers to find the perfect plant that is best suited to their home and garden from our extensive range of high-quality stock.
Max has been working at Avalon Nursery for over a year now as a first year apprentice. He likes working outdoors and hopes that this experience will help him in his future career in horticulture or landscaping.
With more than 10 years experience in the horticultural industry and a lifetime of passion for plants, Rhys always enjoys the challenge of helping people grow their outdoor spaces. Whether it’s permaculture or garden planning, plant identification or pest & disease control, he thoroughly enjoys working with our customers at Avalon Nursery to meet their gardening needs.
Carole is a qualified accountant with experience in accounting roles at large corporations. She is knowledgable about process improvement, project management and software implementation roles. She is also a keen gardener and animal lover, which works well at Avalon Nursery.
Alissa owns the In The Sticks Café. Along with David, Joanne and the Team at Avalon Nursery she cannot wait to help create a relaxing, beautiful, happy environment for everyone to come and visit, shop and enjoy a yummy coffee, cake or croissant (plus much more). Alissa has experience managing four retail stores across Melbourne and was nominated for top customer service at Myer.
